Relevant Market Data

Data improves your decision-making in nearly all circumstances. And we want to provide you with as much relevant public/free data as we can. For tech employees with stock-based-compensation, there are two primary vectors where data is highly relevant:

(1) How pre- and post-IPO companies have historically performed

This data can/should help you better understand the risk and reward of your stock-based-comp, aiding in many of the key decisions and analyses you may conduct:

VC-Backed Company Exit Rates. Understanding exit-rate likelihood is key to making an investment decision regarding your stock comp.

Average Tech Company Post-IPO Returns. The majority of technology companies decline In value after going public.

Single Company Stock Performance in the S&P500. Picking individual stocks is challenging; most underperform.

Company Valuation Multiples & History. A dive into how valuation multiples drive tech company valuations, and critical factors that can change them.

(2) Tech employee compensation data

Whether you're trying to understand if you're fairly compensated, seeking data to make a case for a raise/bonus, or switching jobs and trying to understand average company/market compensation bands --> this provides a list of the best free and publicly available resources we're currently aware of:

Average Tech Employee Compensation (By Job/Role/Seniority). There are some great free public resources to help you calibrate your cash and equity compensation.

Average Startup Employee Tenure. How long employees typically stay at a startup, and how that changes over time if/as the company grows
