Free Tech Employee Compensation Data

When negotiating your compensation (as a new joiner or an existing employee), being informed on market rates and averages can help you better consider what your "ask" should be and/or help you make your case. If you know where to look, there are a number of free/publicly available data sources out there that can provide you with insights. The three we most commonly hear/use are:

Carta compensation data . Carta is the market leader in company equity compensation administration, so they have a wealth of compensation data. They occasionally make some of their compensation data reports available to to the public. As of the writing of this post, Carta's 2022 East Coast compensation reports can be publicly accessed (via the link above).

Levels and TopStartups (Other Data Sources To Consider)

Levels.fyi is a community for technology professionals who share their salary and equity compensation information (and which is also supplemented by other sources).

TopStartups.io is tech community job searching tool, which also has a platform for technology professionals to share their salary and equity compensation information.
